One of the world’s largest hard disk drive manufacturers and data storage companies, Western Digital, has signed a long-term commercial solar power purchase agreement to provide clean energy for its Thailand operations.
THAILAND, January 17, 2022: Constant Energy is pleased to have held a virtual signing ceremony for a long-term Corporate Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with [Western Digital Storage Technologies Thailand, Ltd (WD). The Solar PPA will allow WD’s factories in Bang Pa-In Industrial Estate to benefit from a 3.8MW on-site solar energy production generating more than five GWh/year of green energy, with plans for the power plant to start generating power in 2022. Headquartered in the USA and with multiple sites in across Asia, WD is the world leader in hard disk drives (HDD).
By providing clean renewable energy, Constant Energy will provide the support WD needs to obtain carbon credits by lowering their greenhouse gas emissions, carbon footprint, and their electricity bills to meet WD’s sustainability goals.
This new commercial solar project PPA will allow WD to register savings on electricity from day one to support the reduction of their factory operating costs. This move will help WD to increase the percentage of electricity it uses produced by from renewable sources and reduce associated carbon emissions and greenhouse gases. Solar rooftop power plants and solar PV systems will support WD’s Energy Saving Policy and Sustainable Development Goals as part of their contribution to the fight against Climate Change by expanding their use of renewable energy.
Franck Constant, Founder and CEO of Constant Energy commented:
“We are honored to have been chosen by another Fortune 500 global company, amongst our growing list of large semiconductor clients, to accompany them on their sustainability journey. Western Digital has committed to reducing their absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by FY2030, from an FY2020 base year, and we look forward to deploying on-site rooftop solar panels rapidly across their sites and to contribute to these ambitious targets.”
Western Digital added:
“We look forward to working with Constant Energy starting with this long-term commercial solar Power Purchase Agreement which will provide an immediate contribution towards our sustainability goals.”
